Stand-Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)

If you’re looking for a way to enjoy the water, Stand Up Paddle Boarding is your answer.

SUP is a fun and easy way to get on the water and explore the lakes, rivers, and oceans around you. You can use it as a way to get fit, as well as improve your balance and coordination. It’s also a great way to spend time with friends and family!

Stand-up Paddle Boarding is one of the finest ways to get out and enjoy the water. The sport originated as a traditional Hawaiian custom that was reintroduced to the globe in the mid-60s and has since been the fastest-growing board sport in the world, partly thanks to the fact that it’s very easy to learn!

If you’re looking for a unique experience by renting a SUP paddle board, we at the  Lagoon Activity Centre have got you covered! Whether you’re looking for something fun to do with your kids or want to be able to spend some quality time with your spouse or significant other, we’ve got you covered. You’ll be able to enjoy the stunning scenery of West Cork from a whole new perspective on our stand-up paddle boards.

Our staff will help you find the perfect board for your needs, so don’t be afraid to ask questions!

It's Like Surfing but Without the Waves!

The Lagoon Activity Centre has a range of paddle boards available for hire. Paddle boarding is designed for beginner to intermediate paddlers and is suitable for adults and children alike (with an adult).

If you’ve never tried paddle boarding before, don’t worry! We’ll go through some basic instructions before getting you to stand-up paddle board on the water. Our instructors will be on hand throughout your session to give you advice, help with technique, or just chat about how much fun it is!

Our stand-up paddle boards are extremely sturdy, making it easy for anybody, regardless of their level of expertise, to learn to paddleboard. We’re pleased to share any tips from paddle board Cork, that we’ve learned along the road with you, too.

You’ll get wet, even if you’re an experienced stand-up paddle boarder, so leave your valuables and devices behind in the car or with us at our front desk.

The water is only 3 feet deep (does not apply to waterpark) and there are lifejackets provided for everyone.

STAND-UP PADDLEBOARDING - Try something new AND FUN

Stand Up Paddle Board

  • Stand Up Paddleboarding is an offshoot of surfing. The sport originating in Hawaii. Unlike traditional surfing where the rider sits until a wave comes, stand up paddle boarders stand on their boards and use a paddle to propel themselves through the water. The sport was documented in a 2013 report that identified it as the outdoor sporting activity with the most first-time participants in the United States that year. Variations include flat water paddling for outdoor recreation, fitness, or sightseeing, racing on lakes, large rivers and canals, surfing on ocean waves, paddling in river rapids (whitewater SUP), Paddle board yoga, and even fishing.

This activity centre is so much fun, and easy to find in Roscarbery! The staff were wonderful and friendly. Life jackets are supplied, and wetsuits are available if you need them. There are showers and restrooms available, and food to purchase also. The Lagoon Activity Centre is a great laugh. It's a bit on the slippy side, so be prepared to fall into the water if you're walking or running too fast! The water is salty, and while it's around 3ft deep in some places, it's much deeper in other parts. You can also hire out peddle boats, stand up paddle boards and kayaks also. A great activity centre for both adults and kids! 5 out of 5!!

Great place for both adults and children, wetsuit available if you done bring your own, life jackets also, the lagoon is on about 3/4 foot deep so safe for all type of swimmers, water is salty (seems maybe dirty and stagnant to me but I'm no water expert). Big area for running around on and plenty of obstacles to tackle and then the slides

Book early. Always a hoot. For all ages! I'm early 50s and go with the teenagers every summer. The new pyramid is a testing climb but worth it. I started with this and got the wetting out of the way early on! Could do with clearing out of the pond scum which accumulates in two

Fun facilities and a lovely relaxed atmosphere at the centre. Very friendly staff at the centre base. Aqua park was fun but very daunting. Be prepared for essentially a slippery bouncy castle. Those in charge of the Aquapark we very unhelpful, bordering on rude. Myself and others were the ones pulling the dingy closer to the inflatable to help people on and off while they looked on. No positive interaction, just looked constantly bored by our existence and us possibly being in need of a hand. Nothing to wipe the very many cuts I witnessed on the way back. Those on shore were very helpful. Please remember that it is all of our first time on a wobbly, slippery inflatable in deep water that most of us are only on to keep out children happy. Our old bodies ache. It costs nothing to give us a fake smile and a hand onto wobbly polyethylene. In fact, it would go a really long way. You catch more flies with honey then with vinegar. Still had a great time though!

We had a fantastic day with our three chikdren at the floating water park...even our 16 year old enjoyed it. Even the rain couldnt dampen the experience and the staff were very friendly. I would recommend wearing aqua shoes as it can be shallow and stony underfoot.

Paddleboard Rental FAQs

Yes, as the weather impacts the conditions of the sea, it is strongly recommended to check the weather forecast when you are planning your visit to stand-up paddle with us.

The weather conditions must be suitable to guarantee a safe paddle-boarding experience. Forecasts that predict strong winds, heavy rain, and stormy weather are not suitable weather conditions for paddle boarding. Ideally, the optimal conditions for paddle boarding consist of calm days with clear skies, especially for beginner paddlers and children. Optimal conditions are vital for many reasons, such as; visibility purposes, allowing you to identify other paddles and any potential hazards or obstacles. Additionally, good weather makes the experience more pleasant for paddle boarding overall.

We have created a list below of our recommended weather forecasting pages for you to check the local paddle boarding Cork-based conditions:

Yes, we provide life jackets to all participants who are paddle boarding. Life jackets act as a fundamental piece of safety equipment as they are buoyant and keep paddlers afloat if they are in the water. Life jackets must be worn by everyone who participates in our activities, regardless of their knowledge or their expertise

This is a beginner-friendly activity, meaning you do not have to buy any water sports gear to use our SUP paddle boards, however, we recommend that you bring the following items to get the most out of your adventure activity here in Rosscarbery.

Sunscreen: As seasoned pros, we know the weather can be deceiving out at sea; therefore, we highly recommend applying sun cream when paddle boarding to protect yourself from the harmful UV rays and to avoid getting sunburned!

A Hat: Wearing a hat while stand-up paddle boarding can act as a form of protection from sunburn while also protecting your eyes from the sun.

Sunglasses: Wearing sunglasses while paddle boarding can improve your visibility, reduce eye strain from harsh UV rays, and minimize the overall glare from the sea.

Swim-Wear: We recommend bringing swimwear that you feel comfortable in for paddle boarding Cork.

Food and Drinks: Stand-up paddle boarding is a fun, energetic activity, it’s worthwhile packing some food and drinks to keep yourself hydrated and to keep your energy levels up!

Alternatively, we have our very own Jack Shack restaurant which is nestled beside the stunning Rosscarbery Lagoon. Our restaurant is perfect for those looking to unwind and dine by the beautiful waterfront while enjoying our carefully curated menu.
